Super MTC – July 7th – Report + Results

Team Tieu’s Super Muay Thai Championships (Super MTC) hit Scala Nightclub in Kings Cross, London for yet another installment of non-stop action headlined by a prestige womens bout between the Team Tieu and Keddles Gym world muay thai champion Sherre Haliday taking on Dutch champ and power puncher, Salaysa Vd Bo.

The fight started with Salaysa blasting Haliday to the canvas with power punches. Haliday survived the count but received yet more power punches forcing her to the canvas once again. It looked as though Haliday wasn’t going to make the count but she did, and when she was up, she was ready to rumble. Haliday turned the fight around landing knees to the ribs and head of Salaysa as she crumbled in the corner. Salaysa made it up from the count but the ref didn’t let it continue to much delight of Haliday but in much dismay to Salaysa and her corner.
In the nights co-main event Team Tieu’s Matthew Tieu took on Scottish showman Tam McCourt. Donning the superman shorts McCourt played the crowd with his cheeky antics however Tieu was the dominant fighter landed some solid shots including elbows and body kicks which landed on the arm of McCourt forcing the fatigued Scotsman to retire at the end of the 4th round with a broken arm. Highlight of the fight goes to McCourt though, after surviving an 8 count, he told Tieu to come forward before laying on the ropes in the corner.
In the only other A-Class fight and for the ISKA British Title, Team Tieu’s Carlton Lieu put on a great performance sending a message to the rest of his weight category even though he had just a few days notice and was fighting at 67kg although he usually fights at 63kg. Showing his superior speed and almost looking as if he was always one step ahead of Aaron Turner cutting him with elbows in the 1st round and unleashing barrage after barrage until the final bell. Credit where credit is due though, Turner is one tough dude, but the young Carlton Lieu is one for the future.
