Liam Shannon speaks ahead of come back at Clan Wars

By Del Walsh

After over a year out of the sport due to injury, professional mixed martial artist and Fight Academy Ireland coach Liam Shannon makes his return to the cage for Clan Wars IX in the Ramada Hotel in Belfast on March 3.

Liam will bring plenty of experience to the cage having been involved in MMA for almost a decade.
Having made the move to welterweight, and cut an extreme weight in a single day for a previous fight, Shannon will return to what he sees as a more natural middleweight.
“For this fight I’ am back to fighting at my proper weight and for the first time in last few fights I’m actually being coached rather than doing the coaching. All my coaches are hand-picked and are all at the highest level in their disciplines. I’m sure people will see a few of my new tricks I’ve brought to play with.
“I’ am fighting for the Clan Wars middleweight title and I’ m really looking forward to getting back in the cage and put a few records straight.
“I’ am really honoured to be fighting on such a prestigious show for a sought after title. Clan Wars is one of the best shows I’ve been involved in and keep getting better each show.
“I felt this was the right show to host my come back because I’ve never fought in Belfast and it’s about time I show my friends and family why I train so hard.”
However, Shannon will have his hands full with an opponent who has a well-rounded MMA game and is yet to taste defeat inside the cage.
“My opponent, Lucas Citokas is very well rounded coming from Sebastian Kozaks gym and I will have to respect all areas of his game. I look forward to putting on a show for the fans and all I can promise is that two guys will give it their all and the fans will be on the edge of their seat.”
“I would like to thank all my coaches, Joe “spanners” Armstrong, John “Monday Night” O’ Rawe, Sebastian “the Newzilian” Torres and Seamy “Boom Boom” Deeds. Also, all my training partners and friends at Fight Academy Ireland. Keep swinging folks.”
This contest is sure to be one which the Clan Wars fans will relish as both men look to stamp their mark on the Irish MMA scene for very different reasons and end the first show in style.
With a win Liam Shannon will firmly show he is back to his best however, Lucas Citokas is unlikely to fall to his first professional defeat too easily.
