The very first Safe MMA covered show takes place tomorrow night as UCMMA 32 kicks off the UKMMA calendar with their first show of 2013. Dave O’Donnell said that it was hard acclimatising to the new Safe MMA set up, but i’m sure over the period of this year with their many shows, it will just become the norm for the regular fighters.
In the Main Event tomorrow night, we see Pride, Bellator and SFL veteran, Zelg Galesic challenge for ‘The Swarm’, Linton Vassell’s light heavyweight crown. For both fighters this is an extremely important fight! For the champion Linton, who is ranked at #2 in the UK rankings, it means he will have took out a well known, tough, skilful guy who has been around the circuit for many years. However for Zelg, after losing a few times on Bellator, it is the chance to put himself right back up there with the cream of UK light heavyweights.
In the Co-Main event, MMA Terror Squad’s Makunga Bunduku takes on Karl ‘Lozza’ Lawrence in a fight that has got a few talking. Makunga is 2-0 as a pro and is coming off of a win against Steve Brand at UCMMA 30 – ‘Lozza’ has a 3-3 record and has fought some big names including Iain Martell albeit in the weight class above. This fight will be a cracker as both are so explosive, however Lawrence has promised that in his time off, he has calmed down and learned to take a step back.
Next on the card is Mike ‘Nightmare’ Neun taking on Scott Stribbling. There’s some history between the two and it was billed as a little bit of a grudge match, however on hearing the story behind it today, it wasn’t anything to rave about, really. Currently 2-1, Neun will be looking to get a third win under his belt. After a hard fought fight at BAMMA last time out against Thomas Denham, the Team Titan man looks ready for action. Stribbling however, is 2-2 and looked calm and relaxed at the weigh ins today and no doubt realises the effect that a win over someone like Neun could have on his career. Both guys are pretty tall and slim for light heavyweights so we shall see how that pans out tomorrow!
Also on the card is technically the #1 contender for the middleweight title, Jason Radcliffe, taking on last minute replacement James Stone. Jason has been training at London Shootfighters for this camp so no doubt he will be a machine in there tomorrow, at 5-1 he is looking to move to the next step in his career. Stone however, i know little about. A last minute replacement and rushed through the SafeMMA process, however he is game to fight. When asked why he took the fight he replied “why not!?” so he isn’t fazed by it at all.
